Examples
I am always amazed with the masters of Jiu-Jitsu: Relson, Rickson, and the like. You never see them screaming for attention or fame. They just do what they do and do it the best that they can. They seem to live by a simple code of dignity and reverence for truth. It kind of reminds me of a saying a friend told me about a long time ago when I was just a white belt, "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far." Thank God examples exist to model what true mastery looks like - that which I have not yet attained - but wish to.

Gratitude
Be grateful for those indispensable people who, on the way up, shaped your life in Jiu-Jitsu. The moment ego takes over sincere gratitude, is the day one's Jiu-Jitsu dies: it is the day pride destroys teachability - the key to never ending progress in this art.
I thank Relson Gracie, Scott Divine, Pedro Sauer, Gye Nitta, Jeff Furuta, Andrew Furuta, James Gardner, Marcus Otsuji and all those who bled on the mats and never made excuses.
No matter how good you are (or think you are), never forget those who helped you along the way. Those who gave you treasures that could only come through the efforts of those around you - especially the honest few who "to this day" reveal themselves through your technique and occasional flashes of genius. Do this and I believe you will see with humble eyes, thus, becoming better and better each day and lead the next generation of Jiu-Jitsu maniacs with clarity of purpose and truth.

The Fresh Prince
Stumbled across this video tonight and was pleasantly surprised by the wisdom of Will Smith. "He's all grownz up." In my opinion, the principles that Mr. Smith speaks about directly applies to Jiu-Jitsu excellence. Good stuff.

Jiu-Jitsu Quote
One of my favorite quotes by Rickson Gracie:
"I am a shark, the ground is my ocean and most people can't even swim."
